How to make a Face
To make the Hominid:
- Get the original image from NASA.
- Using Graphic Editing software (such as Photoshop), crop the image so that only the face and the immediate area is visible.
- Rotate the image 45 degrees clockwise.
- Save the image. You will need to use this image later.
- Now for the tricky part, selecting the right part of the face. If you split the face right down the middle, the results will be disappointing. Instead, use the "nose" near the middle of the face as a guide. The image below and to the left shows about where you should select. For the Hominid, select everything from the left of the image to the middle of the white line.

- Copy the image
- Paste the image
- Flip what you have just pasted horizontally.
- Move it until it lines up with the left side of the face.
- Adjust contrast as needed.
To make the Lion:
- Open the image you saved in step 4 above.
- Invert the image to simulate afternoon lighting.
- Selecting... again, use the "nose" as a guide, but this time it's the cat like noise near the middle of the inverted face. The image above and to the right shows about where you should select. For the Lion, select everything from the right of the image to the middle of the white line.
- Copy the image
- Paste the image
- Flip what you have just pasted horizontally.
- Move it until it lines up with the right side of the face.
- Adjust contrast as needed.
You should end up with two images that look quite similar to mine.
